Chasing the garbage man

This morning wasn't any different from any other morning except for the fact it is Garbage Day. Because Rocky and I are fairly new at this home ownership thing, only 2 weeks in, we are still trying to get our garbage groove. I woke up this morning to the garbage truck right in front of our house, it only took me about 5 seconds for my brain to compute the following equation. Full garbage can + no garbage pickup = too much garbage for next week. I screamed "ROCKY! THE GARBAGE TRUCK." We talked about it fast and thought that we had missed our chance. I looked out the window and saw that he wasn't too far away and said to Rocky, "RUN." Run is exactly what he did, with the garbage can in tow. Now I didn't get to see it but it must have been hilarious. He said that he was wildly waving at the garbage truck, pushing the garbage can, hoping to get the drivers attention before he turned the corner and drove away, which was coming up fast. Rocky said he was surprised how fast the truck was. Well the wild waving worked and the garbage man stopped long enough for Rocky to catch up to him and get our trash dumped. Whew. Then the truck did something very unexpected. He didn't turn and drive away, he did turn but he went onto a street really close to us. All that chasing for nothing? Well we now know the garbage man route and have achieved the garbage groove we were looking for. I'm excited that we will have room for this upcoming week's garbage. Odd thing to be excited about but I totally am. I looked with pride at the empty garbage can next to the house. I'm pretty sure I've got an awesome husband.

C-Note saw the picture and said, "Is that the garbage can of me in there." I don't know why, but it was quite funny.

nice- I know just the feeling of crap at 7:00 when I hear the truck and the can is full - now when you start filling up your neighbors cans... that is a whole new thing too

Hilarious! I wish someone in my neighborhood would do that. The only problem is I'm always the one on garbage morning that remembers it hasn't been taken out. I'm sure it would be super funny if some pregnant lady was running around...not a picture I want to imagine.

we do the "garbage day run" a lot. Luckily we get the warning from him as he gathers the garbage cans on the other side of the street first.
Your initiation to home ownership beats ours... we had a basement flood too. It gets better and will make it feel more like yours.

ha ha, that's funny. sounds familiar too, except we've never really chased the garbage man, we've just dealt with the full, overflowing garbage can. Comgratulations on your new move, and good luck!

Just be careful...you wouldn't want to have to take a special trip to the clubhouse to get your can back for leaving it out too long! :)
