I got super lucky and was able to get my Grandma to sneak in a visit to Alabama while she was on her trip. All it cost me was a drive to Mississippi to see cousins that I hadn't seen in a long time. It was pretty much an all win situation for me.
The boys and I loaded up the van and headed west to Mississippi. It was only a little crazy...James had an accident in his seat and Logan had a blowout. I was able to contain my bodily functions...luckily.
Other than that we did pretty well.
We were able to attend a baby shower and meet new cousins. James loved it. It was in heaven and got so much attention. He was so sad when it was time to go.
We drove Grandma back to our place in Alabama and only had to make 107 stops along the way. Okay it was really only like 6...but it felt like 107 and we couldn't get home fast enough. Grandma was starting to get tree sick. There are lots of trees out this way. More than she had imagined.
But we finally made it and showed Grandma more and more trees. We are surrounded here. She got tired and fell asleep on the floor.
James loved having his great grandma here. And tried so patiently to wait to her wake up from her name. He sat down next to her head and she asked him to give her 5 more minutes. He sweetly said ok and then woke her up 30 seconds later...which in his mind has seemed like 5 minutes.
Grandma was able to help me out while I went to an unexpected Dr. appointment. She babysat James - or James babysat Grandma...it was hard to tell. Grandma read James all the books in his room and then felt tired and told James that she was tired. So he got her a pillow and a blanket so she could nap. He also got her a binky and really thought that she needed it because he wouldn't take NO for an answer. So grandma had a binky too. Then he turned off the light and got into his bed and said that it was time for a rest. 30 seconds later he jumped out of bed and turned on the light and said 'It's time to wake up.'
Grandma was a trooper. We sunbathed on the deck while the boys took naps. We weeded my garden box, we ate HUGE baked potatoes, we flew the kite, played basketball, drew pictures, played games and tried to wear each other out.
We loved having grandma here and cried when it was time for her to leave. Hope she comes back.
